Builder Gel vs. Gel X: Which Nail Extension Is Right for You?

Builder Gel vs. Gel X: Which Nail Extension Is Right for You?

If you're considering nail extensions but aren't sure which type to choose, you're not alone. Builder gel and Gel X are two of the most popular options we offer at Neon Nails and Spa, and each has unique advantages.

Builder gel is a thick, self-leveling gel that's applied directly to your natural nail and sculpted to create length and shape. It's incredibly versatile because your technician can customize the length, shape, and thickness to your exact preferences. Builder gel is also excellent for strengthening weak or damaged natural nails without necessarily adding length.

Gel X, on the other hand, uses pre-made soft gel tips that are adhered to your natural nails with gel adhesive. The tips come in various shapes and lengths, making the application process faster and more uniform. Gel X is ideal for clients who want a specific look without the sculpting time.

In terms of durability, both systems perform well. Builder gel tends to be slightly more flexible and natural-feeling, while Gel X tips provide a more consistent shape across all ten nails. Both typically last three to four weeks with proper care.

The removal process differs as well. Builder gel can be soaked off with acetone or filed down for a fill, while Gel X tips are typically soaked off completely and replaced. This means builder gel may be more cost-effective for regular maintenance since fills are quicker than full sets.

At Neon Nails and Spa, both builder gel and Gel X full sets start at $60, with fills available at $45 and $50 respectively. Our technicians in Fresno are skilled in both systems and can recommend the best option based on your nail type, lifestyle, and aesthetic goals.
